Materials & Finishes
Specified for the job
Stainless steel
The default for anything meeting food. 304 for standard food use, 316 where salt or constant moisture is a factor. Non porous, takes commercial cleaning and lasts.
Brass, copper and aluminium
Brass and copper for warmth and a finish that ages, aluminium where weight is the binding constraint. Lacquered where the look needs to be held, left to patinate where it does not.
Finishes
Brushed, satin, mirror polished, blackened and aged. Powder coating in any colour, colour matched to a brand reference with test panels approved before anything is coated for real.
Engineering
Load and structural calculations produced or commissioned for large, tall or cantilevered pieces. We engineer to the real weight with margin on top rather than the nominal one.
Worth Knowing
Where the cost actually sits
Metal is not expensive to buy and it is expensive to fabricate well. Welding stainless cleanly and then polishing the welds out is slow, skilled work, and it is where the money goes on a good piece rather than into the material. It is also the least forgiving material to change once it is welded, which is why we drawing-approve before anything is cut.
In return you get strength at slim sections, which is how a display carries serious load and still looks light. A steel frame will hold what would need three times the bulk in timber.

Answered plainly
Which stainless grade do you use for food contact?
304 is the standard for food use. 316 adds corrosion resistance where salt or constant moisture is a factor, which is why it turns up in coastal and marine settings. The grade is stated on the quote.
Can you weld and polish so the joints do not show?
Yes, and on a visible piece that is most of the work. Welds are dressed and polished out, and the finish is taken to whatever level the piece needs, up to full mirror.
Can you colour match powder coating?
Yes, to a brand reference or a supplied sample, with test panels approved before anything is coated for real.
Can you provide structural calculations?
Yes. Load and structural calculations are produced or commissioned for large, tall or cantilevered pieces. Tell us the real weight the piece carries and we design to it with margin. See our compliance page.
How big can a metal structure be?
There is no fixed limit. Tell us the dimensions and we will tell you how it is built, how it splits for transport and how it goes back together on site.
Do you combine metal with other materials?
Constantly, and most good pieces do. A steel frame carrying the load, timber where hands and food go, acrylic where you need to see through. The skill is in the junctions and it is where cheap work gives itself away.
Is there a minimum order?
No. One-off pieces through to repeat runs, with consistent finish across every unit.
